Nexusville Homecoming Dance

TFA Slipstream

As dusk falls over Nexusville, it is apparent something is going on in Park Slope. The cool-toned, slope-sided tower that lends the small neighborhood one half of its name stands out from the dark, vacant buildings, with the glass-enclosed observation deck brightly lit, like a lighthouse signaling a port. Light beams out from the ( Read more... )

DJ Emo playing a dedication on the Observation Deck karanseraph September 19 2010, 01:55:03 UTC

[Starscream's voice cuts through to the observation deck's dance floor, as the previous song fades out.]

I have a dedication. This song goes out to Rodimus Prime.

Lockdown makes his way to the Observation Deck, screwdriver in hand, electrical tape spool on hook and a processor clogged with indecision. He wants to put in a song request to the near-tolerable Starscream, one that the jet will hopefully play at the hunter's signal and specifically when the time is right. It's to be a ballad, something he can sway to slowly with a certain other seeker in his arms, perhaps when the evening starts coming to a close and she isn't burdened with the duties of hosting. But can't for the life of him decide which song he wants played. He wants it to be meaningful but he doesn't want to overstep the bounds of their...whatever it is they have ( ... )

[Starscream has some idea who this apparently neutral bot is. He's seen him around Medbay and the apartment building. He's pretty sure this is the owner of a particular poncho that sometimes hangs inside Slipstream's door. But, what he thinks when he sees the gaffer's equipment, is that, like Megatron, Slipstream has some ability to recruit handy mechs to do chores for her, while he, despite having made it to Second-in-Command of the Decepticon faction twice, is the recruitee, more often than not.]

What? [He sneers.]

Since you live a couple doors down from uh...from your landlady, I was wonderin'...

His cool and gruff demeaner starts to dwindle as realizes just how exposing this question is going to be. He wonders if it is even appropriate to ask Slipstream's tenant. Perhaps she preferred not to divulge any personal information to him. But he had to know and no one else would like be able to supply this information.

Do ya hear what music she plays a lot...specifically the...Both his gaze and voice drop.

Slower stuff.

[Starscream glares at Lockdown for a moment longer then breaks into laughter.]

I can hear. The apartments have a few shared walls. Metal structure seems to conduct sounds quite well.

[So, he can hear, say giggling, as well as music.]

You thinking of making a song dedication? Her taste seems somewhat different than mine. [He looks pointedly at Lockdown.] Mostly she listens to dance, pop and electronic...some other stuff.

[He considers mentioning that a good portion of it is human females singing about self-empowerment.]

Lockdown fights the urge to smirk, partially out of embarrassment and partially out of an exhibitionist's pride. He finds it amusing that this fragger probably heard far more then he ever wanted to hear.

Dedication or just somethin' she'll like dancing to...slowly.

As Starscream list the genres, the hunter's amusement fades. This is not news to him. He kept track of her reactions to music he had played for her and she had always favored the synthpop.

Thanks pal. Been a big help. He speaks flatly, tossing the electrical tape apathetically onto the soundboard. Should tape up those sloppy splices in yer speaker wire.

[Starscream picks up the roll of tape and looks down at it silently for a moment. He mutters quietly.] I used to be a soldier, a warrior. I didn't do these tasks. But...I guess it's not so different from field repair. [He does not think his splices are sloppy. He'd kept Megatron from bleeding out, before.]

Eh. What about this song? Or, something like it? Or...this other song? It is more the rock ballad sort.

[He turns the small display so that Lockdown can see the data. Appropriate music he understands, whether a track is danceable he's not so sure.]

Lockdown cups the headphones over one audio, listening to a segment of the first suggested song then nodding in rhythm with an almost approving expression.

Not bad. Not great, but...He can't decide if referring to the lyrics as "simplistic" will upset the jet or inadvertently insult Slipstream. He figures it best to keep his opinion to himself.

I'll just listen to the next track.

He listens through the intro and then when vocals begin all he can do is lift a blank stare to the jet. His expression holds for a good half-cycle as the music continues, then finally an optic ridge creeps up, spelling out his wordless reaction of "really?"

Setting the headset down, he forces a polite smile then turns away.

I'll figure somethin out. Thanks for the suggestions.
