The Hunter part of "SunHunter" is a little bit of a fangeek/nerd.
Okay, A LOT of a fangeek/nerd.
Canon gave us X-Files posters on his walls by his computer. He ran a website at mechatopia.com for a few years, which collected and discussed evidence of the presence of giant alien robots on Earth (described therein as "extra-vehicular activity"). Hunter had a rough childhood and thus I find it likely that he tried to escape his woes by losing himself in movies, comics, video games and television shows.
If your character's canon was created in 2006 or prior, it is possible Hunter will know something about it, even if it's just as little as basic recognition. I imagine him to have watched a lot of the badly dubbed animes of the 80's and 90's, kept up with console role playing and fighting games, have seen a lot of sci-fi/fantasy movies, etc.
