He did... but he had to promise not to let Crazy Uncle Bob anywhere near Perceptor.
It was just one time that he took his eyes off the sparkling for a minute, and the next thing he knew the little brat was trying to spike his energon with some chemical while giggling gleefully.
Perceptor: "You can't give away his lab! I called dibs!"
... I wonder if Shockwave's gun form has some sort of scientific use? Because that would make him part of his own lab equipment. *pictures Perceptor with his arms and legs wrapped around an uncomfortable gun-form-Shockwave in a stubborn possessive glomp*

Oh, this reminds me of an cute bit in some fic where Starscream remembered that before the war, when they were investigating foreign planets on a low budget, he'd sleep in alt-mode under Skyfire's wing when conditions were bad. Such an adorable image.
You know what I always found interesting? How, when you have that dream and wake up, you bounce as if you actually fell onto the bed. Makes me wonder if we can float somehow...
*ponders* Good question! Maybe the back just arches a bit when the dream-self is panicking, and it stops when the person wakes up? Or you start to sit up automatically when you wake and then lie back down before you're fully conscious?
And I think their equivalent would be being buried... or drowning, like you said.
Falling through the air, buried, drowning... we missed an element. What about being engulfed in fire? Would that be Seaspray's nightmare?
If he ever learns of his ability and realizes he's been using it... I wonder how horrible he will feel.

I wonder if it's impolite to 'show off' if a Cybertronian has a more advanced version of the same type of tech as someone else.
Well, you gotta admit, even a not so bright mech might be smarter than humans. At least in math, computers, and mechanics.
Ah, but how much of that is unconscious? Because humans aren't necessarily experts in biology and human anatomy just by being organic. And with a doctor always on hand, there's no need for them to have to learn 'medical' stuff if they have some sort of self-repair for minor damage.

Perceptor looked so disappointed when Ironhide refused to drink it. Ironhide almost agreed to after all... but then Perceptor said that he couldn't wait to see what would grow. Ironhide wisely threw the energon away, staring in horrified fascination as it bubbled and melted everything it touched. Perceptor just looked sad that no sparkly crystals started growing like they should have.
Ironhide never drank energon anywhere near Perceptor after that.

True... But we still have a basic understanding of how things work. The heart beats, the lungs breathe... how to eat, drink, move. They may not be geniuses, or know everything there is to know, but they were machines and should therefore know how machines should work. Which part does what, why that part is necessary to allow movement...

Now that I think about it, in Animated!verse this is practically canon.

From that point on, when a test subject asked Perceptor about the effects of his experiment, he would just smile mysteriously and say "You'll find out..."

An experiment is no fun if you know what the results will be, so Perceptor added a few chemicles he found lying around the place (Crazy Uncle Bob really needs to clean his house, doesn't he?). The only words he can read are science-related so he didn't know what he was pouring in there (expensive high-grade and Uncle Bob's Amazing Does Everything Cleaning Formula: Guaranteed To Eat Away At Even The Toughest Stains!). The high-grade was a pretty color and since the science kit was supposed to make crystals of a rather boring clear color, Perceptor thought that by adding the high-grade the crystals would be a pretty color too. He added the cleaning formula because it smelled good.
Though if Perceptor knew it would make crystals, I wonder why he wanted Ironhide to drink it. Maybe he wanted to see if Ironhide turned into a giant pretty crystal?

Perceptor did, until an older youngling named Wheeljack tried to improve it and somehow made it explode. Perceptor lost his rock tumbler and he wasn't allowed to play with Wheeljack anymore.
And don't tell anyone, but Hound still has his. He uses it so much that it's had to be rebuilt several times now. Beachcomber is beginning to wonder where all his rocks are disappearing to.

I am now positive that this is on Perceptor's list of 'Things I would be willing to do to end the war so I could be free to play in my lab as much as I want': turn everyone into pretty crystals and make a crystal garden to enjoy while he waits for test results or something.

Awww! Poor Wheeljack. He must have wondered why Perceptor abruptly stopped playing with him. Maybe this was the explosion that made his mask necessary? Flying shards of broken rock, and all... Poor Perceptor would have been traumatized by seeing his friend with his face all cut up. And I think I've saddified this bunny enough now.

What if he accidentally changed the laws so that everyone who could fly before suddenly couldn't? The Autobots would suddenly have a huge strategic advantage (and the Decepticons would be either trapped in their base, crashed, or drowned) - but the Aerialbots, Powerglide, and Swoop would be Very Displeased.
