G1: Optimus's Secret Bond
An idea that came to me while contemplating fics I know of:
Optimus has a secret, a huge secret, he's bonded to a Decepticon, and has been right through the war.
The two of them got bonded back when he was just a humble dock worker/archivist, before the bondmate joined the Decepticons. Both of them actually thought that Megatron's claimed reasons (freedom and equality) were good, but circumstances kept Optronix from being able to join and then Sentinel Prime is killed and Optronix is pushed into becoming the next Prime, mostly against his will as will.
However, at first opportunity, Optimus meets up with his sparkmate and they talk things out and decide that the bondmate will stay on the Decepticon side, because even at that point Optimus was well aware that the Senate and the Council were corrupt and the only way to fix Cybertron and end the war is to get rid of them.
Of course the biggest obstruction in the way of peace is Megatron, and the war gets bogged down because Megatron won't back down until he's ruling the planet, and Optimus, as Prime, is obligated by the Matrix to fight against Megatron, and Optimus's bondmate is trying to work from behind Decepticon lines to bring the war to an end, but with someone as stubborn and megalomaniac as Megatron, that is no easy task.
Options: I have left the role of who Optimus is bonded to open. In my head, I prefer either Starscream or Soundwave, but it's totally open.
