I have been reading Karen Traviss' Republic Commando books, which are set in the Clone Wars of the Star Wars universe. In these books we learn about the clone army, how it was bred to be the best soldiers there are and that every one of those soldiers is essentially a slave without any choice at all.
In the books there are differences between the clones. Some were genetically manipulated to be the perfect followers, their inclination to follow orders made stronger beyond imagination. Others weren't more manipulated than what can be done by raising them from small children to be soldiers. All of them though were produced to have only the half of a normal lifespan, so that the finished product could be ready for duty in half the time.
So, I came to think. What if the Decepticons were this army? What if the whole civil war on Cybertron is nothing more than a really, really big version of Spartacus' slave revolt?
What if all the problems between Autobots and Decepticons came from a normal non-clone population not even knowing their soldiers had a face, not to mention their own thoughts?
Somehow I see this as a suitable plot for the life action movie verse, but I think it could be done in any continuity.
