Observations and a Bunny!
I am very interested in contrasting humans to transformers in various ways and finding the small similarities. So I tend to think about things in more of a real world sense I suppose. I’ve read fanfics that address the subject of music in relation to Cybertron and something always bugged me about it....
Their musical culture…was far too similar to ours. Now how could such a thing be when their development as a race was no where NEAR similar to ours. So their music must have developed differently as well…
So this popped into my head today:
Transformers as we know are robots, processors, code, and logic driven. So would it be truly conceivable that they have music on Cybertron? I say yes, but not in the same way as we know it. I say their idea of music is not driven by melody or harmonics, but mathematical sequences generated by varying sounds and frequencies. The more mathematically sophisticated a piece, the ‘higher quality’ it is considered.
Consider also that some believe the basis for our own music derives from, essentially, mating calls that grew to be much more as we evolved. Bird songs are just that, or territorial warnings. Transformers would not have such a thing so I contend, as disheartening as it might seem, that Transformers have no concept of singing in their culture and are in fact physically incapable of singing.
On Earth, songs were used to pass stories down to Generation to generation, but Transformers would not have such a need and would in all likelihood never develop the act of singing. Also, I do not believe that as an information and mathematical based race, Cybertronian would have similar sounding words so the concept of rhyming is also nonexistent.
So here is my bunny:
Having awoken on Earth, Jazz discovers Earthen music and goes absolutely bonkers obsessed with it and being so enthralled with the concept of rhyming, decides to speak in nothing BUT rhyme…until the Ark’s crew finally rises up as one to smite him and finally get him to stop.
