what with all the chirping, i thought for sure the babies had t be birdformers. which then either sends things happily off into OTP land for me (Shockwave/Soundwave) or things got really strange in the beast era.

WTF did I just read? I had been looking at that fic every time it came on the FF frontpage and wondering if it was worth sporking but I restrained myself.

The sad part? From author's notes, I kind of get the idea that this writer is in college -- After at first thinking she was, like, thirteen. Usually by then, people start improving.

When I read "yellow and red" I immediately thought Bumblebee and Cliffjumper, but reading the comments I was wrong XD
I think the whole chirping business is a sad, sad mimicry of a movieverse fandom thing people use, though most of the time they aren't actually chirping. It's a mechanical whirring noise that happens to sound much like a chirp. I personally like the idea of Sparklings (assuming they exist in a fanfiction) experimenting with sounds as they develop.
The trick is in not just making them "chirp chirp chirp" like a bird.

Bumblebee and Cliffjumper would have actually been slightly more interesting. While I LOVE the twins and everything about Cybertronian twins, I'm sick of fanon crap about them. I don't really get all OMG THEY'RE AWESOME the fandom has for them (though that might be because I only watch the cartoon and don't read the comics?).

In any case, yes, the chirping is pretty dumb. I've described babby robits as making chirpy sounds before, but never by just inserting the word "chirp" in place of dialogue.

Maybe they interpreted the twins as "harmless pranksters" for fun.
At first it was kind of funny, but as I looked the characters up I quickly figured out that Sunstreaker would definately NOT act cheeky. He's pratically a Decepticon in everything but symbol (in fact the only reason he's an Autobot initially was because he thought the purple insignia clashed with his otherwise perfect body)
Sideswipe tends to be more playful, but not obsessed with pranks. He's more into competition, though is also a deadly efficient warrior.
I find it hard to view them as playful, cheeky Sparklings.

I know the author wanted to show the twins as mischievous, but come on: having them sneak into a high security holding cells for war criminals while still infants? They're the Lambo twins, not James Bond.

And who the hell keeps children in the same building as a prison?

I was kind of under the impression that Ratchet (from reading on further, I think that "young red and white Autobot" is supposed to be Ratchet, anyway)...let them in? I could be wrong, though.

Either way, it's dumb. If Shockwave can't get out, how could they possibly sneak in? And how in the Pit wouldn't Shockwave have noticed them being let in, if that's the case?
