Jazz as a Decepticon

The more I look at Jazz, the more I'm unsettled by his facial design. It's not nearly as inhuman as the Decepticons', but it lacks some of the "gentler" qualities of the Autobot design as well. His face, and his design overall, have always seemed eerily insect-like to me-- an impression aided by the fact that, unlike the other Autobots, I can't think of an instance OR find of image of Jazz having blue optics.

I wonder, was Jazz a bot of Decepticon design before he joined the Autobots? Perhaps he was meant as a spy, (his specs indicate myriad functions useful to espionage) but when he infiltrated the Autobot ranks their values won him over?

I thought the idea was kind of interesting, since there were very likely neutral Cybertronians in the early stages of the war, and the Autobots might not have been suspicious of new 'bots joining their ranks at that point. I don't know if there's ever an indication of Jazz's age, but assuming that he's older than 'Bee but younger than everyone else on their team, I think a youngandimpressionable!Jazz trying to find his way in the war is a possibility. It would make a fun story, at least. ;)
