Attempting Kanzashi

Jun 03, 2008 16:34

Hello! (first post here...) Here are some hanakanzashi I have recently completed.
I have been practicing tsumami-kanzashi for a while, until I was happy with them. I finished some actual arrangements recently, and would like to know what you think of 'em.

Large plum blossoms:

Large cherry blossom with beaded wire and latex:

Chirimen flowers with green-lipped mussel shell and pearls:

Chrysanthemums (about 2.5" across):

With lace (more for wearing with lolita style):

Small blossoms:

Finally- not great pictures, but this is the first 'bouquet' style arrangement I have made.

It's on my to-do list, but so far I have not dyed any of the fabrics used. Cheating maybe... they are all either kimono silk or quilting cottons (I like the texture of the cottons), plus misc. other non-traditional bits and pieces. Most of the fabrics I have now, I like the colours as they are and how they work together. When I have used them all up no doubt I will be dyeing more.
I am also attempting some kanzashi based on local (British meadow) flowers, which obviously don't appear in Japanese examples.
