On conflict avoidance and self-censorship.

I've never been an in-your-face kind of person. I don't like to fight or get in arguments.

Lately, I've been frustrated because it seems that so many people I know have become more and more extreme in their views and intolerant of others. People I used to consider rational and open minded are people I now avoid because I'm not up to getting landed on like a ton of bricks and called names.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I have no more patience for people who seem to go out of their way to encourage divisiveness. The media is bad enough, but not only do some people believe the ignorant and twisted things being said there, but then they go and take it a step (or two) further!

So if you've been curious about why I don't post or comment as much as I used to, here it is. For a while, I seriously considered shutting down my LJ account. It seems that those who have the most wild ideas and the most wild ways of getting those ideas across are lauded, while those who calmly and plainly state their well-reasoned case are derided or dismissed.

I think I may have more to say, but I'll leave it here. Time to get going and get to work.
