Summary: Taiyou gets worried when there's something missing in what he's looking at.
It was another day after school when Taiyou entered his home to find a note from his mother waiting on the kitchen table. It kindly told him that his mother had to suddenly help a family friend of theirs with shopping, but it assured him that dinner will still be made tonight. Smiling at the note, Taiyou gently placed it back on the table and proceeded to retreat to his room. After climbing the stairs with ease from the length and strength of his long legs, he padded through the hallway where he unfortunately had his toe meet with the corner of the wall-side bookshelf. It shifted the wooden bookshelf only slightly but a few knick-knacks still managed to find themselves on the floor. He scrambled to his knees to quickly gather the fallen items into his hands. Taiyou made sure that nothing was left behind when he turned to the bookshelf from his place on the floor to return the items to their proper place. It had been such a long time since he had paid any attention to this bookshelf that he could barely remember which piece went where and what books this case had held. Much to his surprise, he found that this was where several of his idol magazines, pamphlets, and whatnots had gone to.
A bitter thought crossed his mind when he recalled the day he threw everything that reminded him of his major idol days into several boxes and pleaded with his mother to do away with them. Perhaps he should thank his mother for being sentimental and keeping them. Another surprise came to him when he noticed how quite up-to-date some of these magazines were. Thinking about it again to himself, Taiyou knew that he shouldn’t be so shocked since he knows his mom is still an avid fan of Arashi.
It still hurt a little, of course. But it was his decision to leave when he didn’t have to.
Grabbing a random issue from the top, where the latest magazines seemed to be, the first one he found in his hand and randomly opened a page to just had to be with Hey!Say!JUMP gracing the pages. He had nothing against the band at all. He cared for all of his friends (were they still friends?) but it just didn’t feel the same.
Taiyou knew Yabu and Hikaru had the potential even since when they were young to get this far. He was happy for them and would never speak badly of them. It reminded him how he should send them a message just to check up on what they’re doing. He hopes that the numbers and addresses in his phonebook are still the same.
The magazine was returned to the shelf and with a sigh, Taiyou returned the small figures along the ledges. Upon finishing, Taiyou dusted off his hands on his knees and readied to push himself up to stand and continue on his way to his room.
However, a thought dawned upon him of which he had completely forgotten and wanted to slap himself for it. He grabbed yet another recent but random magazine. Taiyou flipped page after page after page. He was nearing the end of the periodical Taiyou began to become confused and worried, the feelings pooling quickly and heavily at the bottom of his stomach. When he reached the end of the magazine, Taiyou threw the magazine down and grabbed for another. Again, he turned through all of the pages, not missing one. Again, he couldn’t find Shoon in any of them.
Quickly, Taiyou grabbed his school bag and searched frantically for his cell phone. He couldn’t even find that. He was beginning to think he was going crazy until he felt the light dangling of his phone charms brushing against his forearm. Taiyou pulled out his phone and searched for Shoon’s number. His long, still-awkward fingers were causing him trouble in his state of uneasiness. Finally, he found the name he was looking for and immediately dialed it.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Shoon?”
“Taiyou? This is Reon.”
Taiyou pulled his phone away from his ear to read on his screen that he was currently connected with Yamashita Reon.
“Oh, hi, Reon. How are you?”
“I’m good. It’s been a while.”
“Yeah. So, what’s up?”
It would be rude to completely ignore Reon like he had considered but had been a long time.
“I can get Shoon for you if you want.”
“Oh, no that’s okay. I do want to talk to you.”
“Don’t worry about it, Taiyou. Wait a moment, okay?”
Taiyou knew that Reon was more clever than he thought.
“Hello?”
It was difficult to remember the last time Taiyou had last heard Shoon’s voice.
“Oh, hi, Shoon. H-how are you?”
“Taiyou! Hey, it’s been forever. How are you doing?”
The sound of familiarity that came from Shoon’s voice to Taiyou’s ear comforted him greatly for some reason.
“Heh I guess I dialed the wrong number so tell Reon I’m sorry. I wanted to talk to you.”
“I’m sure Reon doesn’t mind. He’s happy that he has been able to hear his phone ring and his ringtone for once since anyone barely calls him.”
The whispered bickering at the other end of the line made Taiyou laugh to himself.
“So, what did you want to talk about, Taiyou?”
“Um, it probably sounds weird to talk about this, but I was looking through Potato and WinkUp this month and I noticed that… well, I was wondering if…”
“Did you look through Duet?”
“Huh?”
“I heard that Duet this month was a really good issue.”
“Oh, um… okay.”
Taiyou balanced the phone between his ear and his lanky shoulder to leave his hands free to pull out the said magazine that Shoon mentioned. He wasn’t sure what Shoon was trying to get him to find but Taiyou decided to search for what he was looking for anyway. Taiyou’s fingers opened every page that the magazine contained and started to lose a little hope again as he got close to the end again.
“Shoon, what am I loo-“
“My mom loved the poster that came with it.”
Taiyou listened quietly as he continued to turn page after page, his pace slowing down as he was only a few pages away from the end. Finally, he found himself on the very last page.
“But, personally, I think they saved the best for last.”
Taiyou laughed at Shoon’s playful cockyness but also wanted to cry as his eyes fell upon Shoon’s article with several pictures scattered around the page. Despite the fact that Shoon's page at the very end, he was happy to know that he was still there.
“Shoon…”
“Ahh~ my mom was pretty worried when she saw that I was only in one magazine this month. She can be so irrational sometimes and started thinking of a lot of crazy conspiracies against me. She would say that they're trying to push me away. Silly, right?”
“Shoon…”
“Hey! Since it’s been such a long time since we have last seen each other, let’s go out for an early dinner! It’s my treat since I’m still older than you, no matter what our height difference is.”
“I would like that, Shoon, but I don’t know when my mom will be-“
“I’ve missed you, Taiyou.”
The grip around Taiyou's phone tightened as he felt his heart warm up in the chest a little.
“I miss you too, Shoon.”
“Good, I’ll pick you in 20 minutes. Bring that magazine while you’re at it. We can make fun of the others’ photoshoots like we used to do.”
Author's Notes: I wrote those without the proper references in front of me so I apologize for my mistakes in assumptions and my weak memory. But, I definitely do remember that Shoon's magazine pages have decreased a lot... and it makes me sad~
