July, a damper on things

Jul 15, 2021 12:32

July 4, we did not hold the usual World One July 4th in El Cerrito.
The city of El Cerrito is broke.

KECG-FM does most of the organizing and staffing.
We put word out that we were going to just do a picnic.
Corey edited a special several hr long music program and we played KECG for the picnic,
everyone brought their lunch and the regulars had a chance to reconnect after last years hiatus.

Corey is retiring from teaching at ECHS, but has asked the school district to let him stay on as station manager.
I hope they let him, because when he started with the station, they were contemplating selling the license and making a couple million profit on it.
This is the FM station I helped build in HS.
Id like to see it continue.

Im nervous.

The Amazon job was to take over when unemployment ran out.
I had been out for a bit over a year.
Its easier to get a job when you have one, so once I got Amazon (16/hr sorting facility, 1am shift )
a real day job popped up at a pretty good rate.
I stuck with Amazon till the end of the holiday peak, but then stayed on because I was able to make it work
(4hrs a day 6 days a week) and this extra cash was paying off bills.

Well, day shift contract runs out soon, so I am back into job search mode while trying to work Amazon
and finish the day job.
I would have liked to be able to get into the MS Azure trainign while I was there, but timing didnt work out.
Its good that I still have Amazon, because it pays better than unemployment till I get next contract.

I recently realized that my usual Xmas funk didnt really happen this year and Ive actually been on a
manic streak for 7 months, one of the longest manic streaks I can remember.

Monday, I began to sink into a funk. I knew the manic streak couldnt last forever.
Now, I find out Colleen passed just about the time I began to feel myself sinking into a funk.
May be coincidence, maybe not...

Meanwhile, we are kicking off the ham radio public service season this coming Saturday.
We usually have the kickoff lunch in early March.
2020 we had the lunch and then a month later cancelled the season.

The kicker was that i need to show my vax card because we are holding the lunch at the Marin Rod & Gun Club.
I had been tearing the house apart for a month trying to find that card.
I finally tried the state electronic system and was able to download this QR code.
Unfortunately, you can only open the QR code for 24 hrs.
I went back to get it again and now the state cant find my record.

I was depairing that I was going to miss it this weekend.
This mornign, cleaning out the car, the Vax card turned up......
-----on the dashboard of there car where Ive been looking at it and not realized it!

I will be wearing a small tshirt and the tightest of my "Daisy Dukes" just to watch people freak.
End of 2019 I was in 36 pants, Ill be wearing a pair of 28s WITH a BELT!
Should be fun.

The HS musical & theatre reunion is on hiatus agaain this year with a promise that it will resume in 2022.
Havent heaard about class reunion yet.

With public service season resuming, albeit late, everythign is compressed into late Aug - Oct,
with everything conflicting with Renn Faire.
I also need to make new out fit for Renn Faire, nothing I have fits anymore.

We still dont know what is causing all of this, and with day job ending, Ill also be losing my medical coverage, so chasing the cause of my shrinkage goes back on hold.

Im still bummed about Colleen.
I knew this was going to happen, but I really thought shed hang in there anothert year or two,
giving me time to make it up to a house con to see her one more time.
Crap, I waited too long.
