texture tutorials?

I just got a new copy of Photoshop on my new computer, and I've decided to make a new rule to help me be a better "photoshopper" i guess. And that rule for myself is at least TRY to create all textures and brushes myself instead of downloading them. I mean obviously if I see something hella cool, i'm gonnd download it, lol! but you know what I mean right??

so here's my question: where could I find some texture tutorials to help get me started? or
  could any of you guys give me some tips and techniques that work for you? thanks a ton!
