We Have Electricity!

And water and septic. The next trip will include staying in the house! No more motel bills. Yea! Of course, that means no internet, until we can get tied in with the local wireless system, no working phones, until we get either a land line or the satellite phone we've discussed, no cooking until we can get pots/pans/utensils/food/refrigeration/etc. But it's a step along the way to converting the "house" to the "home". A big step, really. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, as the cliche' goes, and it's not a locomotive headlight that we see. ;-))

We've made trips to the property for the past two weeks, first to observe the installations of the pressure tank and water line to the house, the digging and trenching of the septic system, and the reconfiguration of the electrical service. Secondly, this past Monday, to oversee the actual electrical connection being completed. We'll won't be making any further trips for the next 10-12 days due to doctor visits, Kenneth & Mary's Spring Fling, and the library book sale. During this time, we'll be gathering up the supplies needed for the next trip: curtains or blinds and tools to start working on the floor(gotta pull up a lotta brads from the carpeting). We've realized we've got to get at least some of the new flooring down before we move any additional things into the house, or we'll be spending half our time and energy moving stuff from one part of the house to another part of the house to work on the first part. Not an efficient way of getting the job done.

We've made a couple of new acquaintances this past trip who will be a big help when we get ready to move the large items into the help, sort of a new group of "slave labor" like the kids we've had helping us here in Humble. Missy & James are young and energetic and have offered their paid labor whenever we need them. Missy is slowing building her own house in the area, using adobe bricks. We plan to go have a looksee whenever we get some free time; I've always admired adobe houses, and I know they're quite energy efficient, but I also have heard they can be a "bear" to build.

That's the latest and greatest, I'll be back with more...when there's more to say.  ;-))

To Be Continued...
