Ali and I went to Washington DC last weekend for the wedding of one of
Ali's friends from high school. The weather was CRAPPY but we had a
good time. A city bus was chartered to shuttle us from our hotel in
Chevy Chase, MD to the church in DC and back. The driver kept trying to
take these small residential streets, only the bus was completely
incapable of making the turns since cars were parked on both sides of
the street. He wound up with the bus kinda wedged between an SUV and a
fire hydrant and I thought they were going to have to call another bus
to come get us! But after a lot of lumbering and jerkiness he somehow
got us moving again (the wrong way down a one way street, mind you) and
we made it to the church 20 minutes late. The ceremony was Catholic
which meant that Ali and I got to sit there like bumps on a log looking
confused while everybody around us did the kneel, make the sign of the
cross, respond to the priest, sing along with the cantor, and go get
some bread and wine stuff right on cue. This was my third Catholic
wedding and I have come to the conclusion that they should put a primer
in the programs of Catholic weddings where non-Catholics may be present
outlining what you're expected to do and when. HELP A (heathen) BROTHER
OUT!
Anyway,
here
are Ali's pictures from the weekend, almost exclusively taken at the
reception which was held at Maggiano's in Chevy Chase. If you didn't go
to Conard High School in the early 90s you probably won't know any of
these people.
And yes, I spent the entire weekend saying things like "where's Eddie?
He usually eats these things" and "can I borrow your towel? My car just
hit a water buffalo."
