Keep running; come on just a little bit further. You can make it. Come on Lakira.
These are the words she kept saying to her self as she ran from this growing shadow. She kept running for what felt to be forever. All of a sudden she fell and the growing dark figure started getting closer. Her eyes filled with fear and tears, she turns to hide her head from this fearsome creature. As the creature was breathing on her she awoke...jerking up.
She was in the hospital recovery room. She had frightened the nurse that was watching over her. The nurse came over to her to see what the matter was. Lakira was crying heavily, but what about? She was crying partly because she had just lost the baby that was growing inside her, she also was in major pain from her D&C surgery. The nurse came over to give her a shot that would stop her pain and to offer some support to her grief. Still groggy but feeling less pain Lakira started to stop sobbing. Fifteen minutes went by and she was still in the recovery room, she heard the distant cry of a new born baby, thoughts started going through her head...
If my baby would have lived i would have got to hear her cry... I could have held her...
Thoughts of the baby and what the baby would have looked like shifted through her head; and the tears started to flow down from her clouded eyes to her pale cheek and onto the Kleenex that the nurse held to her cheek.
The nurse finally said "Well I believe it is now time to take you to your room so that you can see your family."
Lakira slightly nodded her head as the nurse started to move her IV stand and bed so she could go back to her room. As she went through the extremely long hall way she thought about all that has happened in the past month. She had just barely found out she was pregnant at the beginning of April. Her and the baby’s father had a rocky relationship since February but when she found out she was pregnant they were together.
He lived in Houston, he moved the day she found out she was pregnant. He wanted her to move to Houston to be there with him and his mother. But she just couldn’t leave her supportive family. The day she found out she was pregnant her family was just a little upset but after that they still loved her and the growing bundle of joy she had in her body. Her family promised her everything if she didn’t move so she was faced with a difficult decision. She knew she would make a great mother with or without the support of the baby’s father; however she just couldn’t see her self without him. Lakira finally reached her room, she saw her mother and grandparents, she looked around the room... but her father was no where to be found. She thought
What else was new, he has a new family to care about.
She shifted her tear streaked face towards her mother and stepfather. They came up to hug her and to sit by her. The doctor came in and told her and the family that the surgery was a success and that she could go home in two to three hours. While he was explaining what happened and what care to take for a while to her mother, Lakira kept thinking about Sean.
Why didn’t he come back? Does he not care?
Their relationship was falling because of the miscarriage and she knew that. He had said some things that upset her and she knows she did the same. She hurt his feelings when he was there to visit and to go to the first doctor appointment. That first appointment showed something was definitely wrong with the baby. She was so distraught and she wanted to be comforted but she rejected his shoulder that he offered. Instead she ran to her friends and ignored his pain.
She finally came back to reality. Her friends and family surrounded her as she recovered from the trauma done to her body. Her mother wiped Lakira's tears from her eyes. Her stepfather prayed for her to understand what’s going on and that it would be better if she gave it to God.
Memories of what happened that week ran through Lakira's head. She sat there thinking why would God help me when i said those awful things to him? She remembered she yelled that he stole her baby, and that she hated him. She remembered that she said he must have hated her and that he never wanted her happy. She sat there praying silently that God would forgive her. Two hours pasted as she waited to be discharged from the hospital. She realized that this could be a brand new start. She may be able to live past this after all. Her and her boyfriend would have to mend things but she was optimistic. The doctor came in and did a final check on everything and took out the IV. Lakira was free to go.
She stayed the weekend with her mother and stepfather. She thought about what had happened and she cried. She was upset and confused about the whole situation. She felt that she needed to talk to Sean. She felt that he would give her comfort and support; however, he claimed she had lied about the baby and said that she used the baby against him. Lakira then broke up with him and vowed she would never talk to him again.
Two months later Lakira is hanging out with her friends and finally becoming her normal self again. She started smiling again and laughing. Her cheeks were rosy and her eyes shined again.
She then met this guy one night that she thought was not interested in her, so she went on with her week. The next week Lakira got a call from her friend Tony stating that Robert wanted to date her. Lakira was excited. She was a little worried since she just got out of a horrible breakup and a horrible trauma of surgery. But Robert stuck to her through her sorrow and her fun times.
He asked her to marry him a month later and they were extremely happy. One night after their marriage Lakira lay down by her husband and dreamed a great dream. She was pregnant and she had already had a daughter and Robert and her were the happiest she could have ever been. She looked up after waking up from her dream and knew her baby girl was smiling down on her and Robert from up above.
