Giving up and getting in shape

Jesus. Airline prices are ridiculously low right now. Graham and I could fly to Paris for a weekend for under $300 a person. If only I had $300 a person.

In other news, Lent starts tomorrow. Too many years of catholic school means that I actually sorta kinda take it seriously. I avoid meat on fridays (when I think about it), and I try to do some sort of lentan sacrifice every year. I don't do the church thing, but then my relationship with God is more personal than institutional.

This year, I'm cheating, I think, in that I'm not giving up anything, but it'll work. I'm aiming to burn at least 300 calories a day via exercise for 40 days. I'm using my heart rate monitor as the official scorekeeper, and I start the official counting tomorrow. I probably will burn more than 300 on some days, like spin class days. But 300 calories is, for me, more or less a half-hour of intense workout. I can commit at least half an hour every day.

I'm actually getting some help on this, because I'm starting up another boot camp through my gym on Monday. It'll be five weeks of hour and a half workouts four days a week. A fifth day will be a spin class day, and the only uncommitted days will be Friday and Sunday. Friday will be harder to manage than Sunday, but I'm confident that I can do it.
