Casual Thursday

I'm teaching a class this afternoon. I do this every couple of months for a variety of people and institutions. I mainly teach graduate or professional school classes, but sometimes I'll do refresher or continuing education courses. Usually, I get an hour or two to talk about whatever I'm talking about, and I get respectful silence through most ( Read more... )

Okay, good article, but seriously -- how dare the Navy think to get rid of the summer whites? One of my main enjoyments during the summer in Newport is seeing good-looking seamen in their whites!

I assume at the beginning of the summer semester, though I imagine the instructor carries it over from year to year. I have no idea when the rule was first brought to this particular class.

I'd actually take the instructor aside after and say something to them about that. No pantsuits? What frakkin century are they living in?

While the pantsuit prohibition in itself is problematic, it's even more galling when compared to the men's attire. Shirt and tie? No jacket? The men's equivalent to suit with skirt and hose is three-piece suit, dark blue or black only.

I know! If they were equally strict with the men, I'd not be as irritated. They didn't even stipulate "no novelty tie."

But wait . . . only men have to be clean shaven. That should count for a lot.
