Coupla things:

If you're a pet owner, keep hydrogen peroxide around to help your animal regurgitate. I've been a pet owner for 15 years, and I've never had to do it, but when I needed the hydrogen peroxide it wasn't in the house. Fortunately, there's a Walgreens less than a minute from my house, but still, that was time that I could have been working on Crianza.

Also, emergency vet clinics are both the most wonderful and most awful places. Only really, really sick animals are there. And owners are panicked and can't get to their regular vets. But the staff is great and thoughtful and helpful. Knowing that my dog was in their hands took a burden off of me. I may have gotten her to throw up everything that she'd eaten, but without putting her in their hands, I wouldn't have been comfortable at all just in case something happened. It may be that the only intervention that she really needed was the induced vomiting, but I'm happy to have taken her to people who have the tools to take care of her if things go horribly wrong. Still, I much preferred it last night, when we were the only patients there, to this morning, when there were a lot of very worried and upset people.

Dr. O'Malley called and told me that Crianza seems to be doing well. Her EEG seems normal, as does the sound of her heart. We just need to make sure that she gets back to baseline ok. She did say that her heart was beating a little fast, but I imagine that the stress is dealing with everything that has happened in the last 15 hours has a lot to do with that. I'll pick her up after work and simultaneously yell at her and love her for putting me through this.

She's going to be pissed at me. What with the throwing up and the bandages and the charcoal and Graham coming home tomorrow, she desperately needs a bath. I think that's adequate punishment.
