Hey, that's Popocatpetal and Ixtachihuatal (spelling way off) - he's not sacrificing her - she killed herself when she heard he died in battle - he laid her out and guards her body, smoking his pipe - they are the mythic characters representing the two volcanoes visible from Mexico City.

As for the human sacrifice stuff . . .
