I twisted my ankle this morning doing something I do every single morning: walking out of my house. I was taking the dogs on their morning walk, when I looked up and saw a man walking his dogs. I was paying more attention to them than I was my footing, and I totally missed the last step of my front porch. I twisted landed hard, twisted my ankle and ended up in a weird kneel/fall that had the man, his dogs, and my dogs wondering what the hell happened. Joy.
I hate the "crunch" sound that my ankle makes when something like that happens. Fortunately, Wooch was kind to me this morning, and I think actually that going to spin class tonight will help out.
For a variety of reasons, today was my frist workout since December 13. It's the longest I've gone without working out in some fashion since April 2006 and I can tell how much my body hates it. I'm lethargic, I'm not feeling particularly healthy, I wasn't eating well. I'm generally oogy. Part of it is that I was sick for the first week of this hiatus. That sapped a lot of my energy. Part of it was that I was stressed with the holiday, then travel with my whole family, then the wedding stuff, then getting to a campout, then moving Graham out of his apartment, then driving 1550 miles back to Houston, then moving Graham in, then dealing with the cat/dog issue. A lot of it is that I just haven't had time to work out.
Today feels like my first normal day in a long, long time. I was able to start it with a workout, and I'll end it with a spin class.
Tomorrow, I'll start swimming again, and I'm looking into various fun runs and small triathlons in the coming months to train for. I was going to start running again this week, to get ready for a five mile fun run in late february, but I think I'll stay off the ankle for a few days.
training and more training,
