I read this at the Houstonist this morning. Good morning, Houston. Nothing to lol at here: the Houston SPCA is rolling out a new policy for pet owners who drop off their pets. From now on, there will be a fifteen minute "counseling session," during which the owners will know if the pet is going to be a candidate for adoption or if it's going to the big litterbox in the sky. The policy is meant to make it harder for owners to drop their animals off, and it's working: so far, over 650 pets have gone back home with their owners. Charming.
Obviously, this isn't the sort of thing I can envision doing, even having been involved in the rearing of some serious problem pets. I'm glad that the SPCA is doing this, though.

In related news, Relampago and Crianza continue to be adorable.

In unrelated news, I watched 9 to 5 last night in an effort to do something mindless while destressing from Burning Man work. I always forget a) how damned funny that movie is, and b) how it's not been that long that we've been subject to that sort of workplace. I almost think that the movie should be required viewing for new employee sexual harassment training, just to demonstrate that parts of that movie were more documentarian than fiction.

Thinking back my entire working career, all but one of my bosses have been women. I don't really think much of it nowadays, but now that I'm looking at it from the perspective of a movie made about 25 years ago, I'm pretty dumbfounded at how far we've come.
