Weekend reporting type stuff

  • I saw Ian Moore at the Continental Club on Saturday night. The last time I saw him, I was in law school and he opened for Bob Dylan. I have a few of his albums, but I'd forgotten how much I really like him until my friend Treasure asked me if I wanted to go see him this weekend. His voice is absolutely amazing, his guitar work is top notch, and his lyrics are downright beautiful. There are samples of his songs on his website. He's headed out on tour with Paul Weller later on next month, and if you live in one of the below cities, go check them out:

    Sept 16th-Los Angeles-Wiltern Theater

Sept 17th: San Francisco-The Warfield theater

    Sept 20th-Chicago: -Vic Theater

    Sept 22nd-Toronto-The Kool Haus

    Sept 24th-NYC-Roseland ballroom

    Sept 25th-Boston-Avalon Ballroom

  • PetCo is damned expensive. I stopped in there this morning because George (who replaced Maurice, who replaced Ferdinand) needs clensing tablets for his (currently very green with alge) water bowl. I stopped in the rawhide section because lately it seems like we're always running out of rawhide. Fuck PetCo's rawhide. Target is much, much cheaper. Also? There is a disturbing trend of crap for dogs. I swear that Barbie has a line of gear for your pet. Rhinestones, funky collars, leashes, beds, carriers, waterbowls. Every time I think I might spoil my dogs a little too much, walking into PetCo rapidly disabuses me of that notion.

That said, I'm seriously considering getting them bones in bulk.

  • Most of my weekend was spent working in my back yard. It's been 8 weeks since I actually spent much time back there and things were getting a little out of hand. I have scratches up and down my arms and legs (and weirdly enough, across my left temple as well as a small nick on my left breast) from hacking away at oleanders, hibiscus, a plant whose name escapes me right now, lantana and part of a plumbego. I cut the grass, took three bouganvillas out of pots and put them into the ground, and dug up a root of a plant that I thought I'd killed but somehow manages to always come back. I also had to haul away another hunk of pecan tree that fell in my back yard on Saturday night after a massive rain/thunderstorm. Unfortunately, this one broke the market umbrella that was underneath, but fortunately, I have a backup umbrella.

  • The rest of my weekend was spent catching up on Battlestar Galactica. Damn, that's a very good show.
