This year is a ten year anniversary for a lot of things. Namely my job (April 1), this journal (April 15), and my house (May 15). And it will be year zero for my marriage. Pretty awesome.
Today is the year mark of losing Crianza. I miss her terribly, and I'm still a little stunned at what happened to her.
I'm glad to see 2011 go. As good as some things were last year, on balance, that year just sucked.
But I feel a renewed sense of optimism. In the last month or so, I've moved forward in a lot of things. I got a new car (New Car! New Car!) last week, which I absolutely love. My house was refinanced. My property taxes were paid. I'm helping a friend with start up that might actually turn into something. We secured the caterer and the tables and chairs for the wedding. I started on some DIY projects for the decor. I sent in the demand letter for my settlement with the insurance company, and I received notice yesterday that I should be getting an offer in the mail soon. It'll be nice to have that over and done with. We got the first of the IKEA gift cards for the kitchen, and we have a good idea on the bid to level the house a bit.
When I kissed Graham on New Years, I said "Three months and fourteen days until our wedding!" It seemed so much closer than it did two minutes earlier.
On New Year's Day, I went into a bit of a cleaning frenzy. I stripped the house of evidence of Christmas and really worked on straightening up. I think our house is going to look quite a bit different a year from now, what with the new kitchen, possibly a new bathroom, and a new configuration of the closet. And hopefully, it won't be emotionally and financially exhausting.
I'm hopeful. Which I think is a good way to be at the start of a new year.
