Burn without us

Aug 23, 2011 23:29

Burning Man starts next week, and for the third time, we won't be there. We're sort of bummed hearing about the exploits of our friends getting ready for the Burn, but I don't think we're all that upset that we're not going. We knew quite some time ago that it wasn't in the cards for us this year. It'd be another stress to get ready this year, and frankly, I've had enough stress for the year.

Part of our not getting stressed about it is that we definitely are going next year. It'll be our fifth anniversary, and we will have just gotten hitched. We'll do some sort of party/ceremony/celebration out there for our friends that can't make it to the shindig in April at the ranch.

Part of it is that we have to get ready for that shindig in April, so planning energy these days goes towards that rather than most other things.

I do miss it though. I haven't done a major art project in awhile, and I like the collaboration that goes into getting ready with a bunch of friends to go into the desert for a week.

We'll do something next Thursday, which is our playa anniversary. I don't remember the exact date, though I suppose I could always look at a calendar. It was the Thursday of the Burn, though. So we always celebrate on that day, even if we're not there.

If we were there, Graham would probably be djing quite a bit. A few camps asked him if he was going to be there, and I suspect that as he has a full year of electroswing under his belt, he'll have plenty more by this time next year.

I do miss it, though. I love the whole experience, and it's not particularly something that can be replicated anywhere else.
