I don't have the energy right now to type up all my journaling from my Ireland and Scotland trip, but it was great. The three-day
Paddywagon tour was a great idea, as were the Sandeman's New Europe free walking tours of Edinburgh and Dublin.
I'm supposed to go to Egypt in two weeks, but this whole swine flu thing has me worried. Usually medical stuff doesn't worry me too much, but 1.) news outside the States is more honest than in the States, and 2.) this is pretty serious, and 3.)Egypt isn't exactly known for its outstanding hygiene. Egypt officials have called for all the country's pigs to be killed, in hopes of curbing the flu. Will I even be allowed to fly in? Who knows. This is awful.
Naturally, with one trip down, it's time to start planning another. My boss leaves us on the 7th of May, and she told us all to get in our requests for time off before she leaves, so I'm planning stuff out through the end of my contract(November.) Even if I don't know exactly what I'll be doing, I'm just going to put in the requests.
So here's the rough outline:
May 10 - 19: Egypt (hopefully?)
June 5- 7: Unknown. Berlin? Cologne? Somewhere in Germany. Frankfurt?
sometime in June:my parents will visit.
July 27 - August 2: Maybe Rotterdam and Amsterdam, though I might cancel this if my parents don't come until July.
mid-to-late August: Mallorca, Spain with a girl from work. A relaxing vacation for once! Lounging on the beach in the sun, drinking sangria. Perfect.
Early October: I'm planning to fly down to Spain, then take the ferry from Tarifa to Tangier (or maybe go from Gibraltar to Tangier) and explore Morocco. Take the train from Tarifa to Marrakesh and network with people there, and talk to them about teaching English next year maybe. I had been looking into going to Syria, but plane tickets are very, very expensive from, well, everywhere. So I might as well save that one for flying from the States, if it's going to be expensive anywhere.
Then, I head home in November. Crazy.
