I must start off by sending an enormous THANK-YOU to the wonderfully worded
Emza, whom without I wouldn't have this glorious spot of the web.
First posts, like first meetings are daunting at the best of times. They say first impressions last and when it suits me, I like to take that term quite seriously. So rather than launching into anything deep and meaningful just yet, I'll start by laying down some home truths.
I'm from Sydney, Australia, but don't hold that against me. I love it here, don't get me wrong, but I have been told on more than one occasion that we aren't a city known for our manners, patience or friendliness.
I'm an entertainment journalist stuck in a music sales assistant's body.
I love music. I can't play a note to save myself and you'd rather lie face down in broken glass than listen to me attempting to sing, but I love listening to it. I love experiencing it live and I love everything it represents. The lyrics, the melody, the rhythm, the way it makes you feel, the way it makes things so much easier to express, the emotional rollercoaster it can take you on...It's an amazing thing. There's not much music I can't listen to. But I will state that I can't stand hard techno and bubblegum pop...though, it would make for an interesting combination.
John Mayer, the inpsiration for my icon and subject title, is just one of the artists I'm incredibly taken with. Sure, he's a bit of a looker and he's got an album that's achieved world-wide success, but he's an awesome musician. The things he writes about, the way he writes about them, his lyrics are so unique and so damn clever. And live Mayer is a feat in itself. His adlibbing, his passion, his guitar solos...just brilliant.
I've been asked on various occasions what song represents me. I could never answer it before the 16th of August, 2003. The first time I heard Something For Kate's
Reverse Soundtrack
So you dance and you shuffle
Into the eye of the storm
Eyes all on fire
As if you've never been here before
And you say it's all nothing
But tell yourself quietly
But I hear you from my house
Breathing differently
And when it all falls down
You won't just stand there
Looking at the ground
And holding your breath
Holding out
So you drive 'til the water
Changes from blue to green
And you wait there until the wind
Knocks you out of your body
You can stay there forever
Counting the stars
Trying to separate yourself from
How things are
But you know you won't get very far
Until it all falls down
So don't just stand there
Looking at the ground
And holding your breath
Holding out
