I'm getting old and I need something to rely on...

The last time I bought a laptop was when I'd just started college. I was studying journalism and, while I convinced myself I needed one for the sake of being studious, I really just wanted to look the part of a modern writer. That was in 2004.

Cut to seven years later and while my little Dell is still kicking along - albeit at a snail's pace, with a temperamental CD/DVD drive and a shocking 30GB of RAM - I've decided it's time to upgrade.

I've stuck with Dell because I like the idea of custom-building, my last one was so good to me and, in the words of Kaylee Frye, "look at the pretties!" This is 'Serenity'...

(Yes, that does include my other new purchases of the fabulous Warblers CD and Deathly Hallows Part 1 DVD but we aren't discussing them just yet.)

My very first inanimate object with a female name - it's a big moment. But oh-so fitting. I'm trying so hard not to become obsessed, as I often do with shiny new toys, but it's a struggle; she is a dream. Fast, sleek, great graphics, fantastic sound and a built-in web cam and wireless!

The saddest part is I can't bear to part with my old one. Yes, it's old, clunky, slow and heavy but it's lasted so long! And I can still watch DVDs on it... when it can actually read the disc and the blue screen of death doesn't appear.
