211: Old Acquaintance

Dec 31, 2007 13:18

She felt Noah’s hands tighten around her shaking arms and she leaned back against him. “What’s going on?” she whispered, terrified. Her husband just shook his head and carefully led her to his office, past the man being dragged the other way, the floor buckling under his hands as he clenched at the air. Noah settled her in his chair, then picked up his phone and spoke softly into it. She was too dazed to make out his words. What did they do in this place? Who was that man? How had he… he…

The door opened slowly and a man stalked lithely into the room. Tall, broad, dark, he was the most intimidating man Sandra had ever seen. “Noah?” Her voice was almost a squeak.

“Don’t worry, honey,” he said softly. “He’s just an old friend. He’s going to help us both.”

Her nerves screamed with fear greater than she’d ever known. Something inside her, instinct perhaps, knew that this was wrong. But Noah’s arms closed around her tenderly, reassuringly, and she forced herself to relax. She knew her husband would never let anyone hurt her.

A large hand pressed lightly against her forehead, and everything went away.
