it's been one hell of a day...

So I get a wake up call this morning from Louis. He sounded very upset, barely holding it together. He asked if Phillip (his bro) had called me yet. When my reply was no, he started to break down and told me that he had some bad news.

First he told me that his dad, Mike, was rushed to the hospital this morning with chest pains. He then told me that there was worse news. Naturally I was thinking that his dad was in a coma or hadn't survived, so I was preparing to hear the worst.

The next thing he told me was that his cousin, who lives 2 houses away from his parents, was found dead this morning, appearing to be asleep on the couch. Manuel, the cousin, was in his late 40s to early 50s. He had recently been medicated for diabetes and hypertension, so they are thinking it was stroke, heart attack, or aneurysm, though no official cause of death has been determined. He left not only a wife, but a teenage son and daughter as well.

After going to the hospital to find out what was going on with Mike, we were told to go check on Manuel's wife, Lela, secure Mike's car, and pick up Louis's mom, Petra, from work and let her know what had happened today.

Needless to say, as soon as we walked in to the school she works at and she saw us, she knew something was wrong with Mike, and started crying. We told her he was in the hospital, and would be there overnight for observation. So she gathered her things, and we followed her to the lounge. We told her to sit down for a minute before we left to calm down, and she knew that we were holding out on something, and demanded to know what was going on, thinking that Mike had passed away but we didnt want to tell her. Lela had told us not to say anything about Manuel until she had seen Mike, but Petra (mom) was adamant that we not keep anything from her because she knew we were holding out, which upset her more.

So we told her about Manuel. I have never seen Petra so upset in the 6 years I have known her. She demanded that we take her to see Lela (her niece) first, since Mike was ok, and was hysterical the whole ride over. She was even more hysterical upon seeing her niece and her kids, and kept asking God why he hadn't taken her instead.

It has been an emotionally toililng day, and I pray for strength for Louis's entire family.
