More power!

I recently read "Don't Stand Too Close To A Naked Man" by Tim Allen. I wouldn't call it particularly funny, but then I was never a big fan of Home Improvement*. But I did find it meaningful in some ways. Tim talks about how the need to destroy and the need to create fit into the male psyche. Why we are driven to smash things and build things. He claims a lot of it is womb envy, and I think he's got a point. It may be that Mary Shelley said it all before in Frankenstein, but it comes out more clearly from the Tool Time guy.

*Galaxy Quest was good. But I digress.

The post title also alludes to the fact that we lost electrical power at the house today. On the hottest day of the year so far. Kalina's daycare lost power too, which meant I had to come home from work at noon and pick her up.** We did ok, went out for lunch, went to the library. Kalina had fun reading and running around in the air conditioning, and by the time we got home the power was back on. But it's still annoying, and it got me thinking about local energy systems, solar cells and whatnot, that would make us less dependent on the utility grid. I don't have time or spare cash to work on anything now, but maybe next spring, especially if the electric company foists another rate hike on us.

**Naomi used up her last spare day taking care of Lina when she was sick last week.
