Rashomon

I watched Rashomon with Naomi tonight. I'd heard lots of cultural references to it before, but somehow never got around to seeing it before now. It's good. Like a shorter, better version of Clue, with half the humor replaced by speculations on ethics and human nature.

I found it hard to recognize Toshiro Mifume, who I mostly knew from his later WWII movies and Shogun. Maybe that's a sign of a good actor, that he could play a murderous, quirky, itchy psychopath, then a proud, noble soldier, then a Machiavellian warlord, and endow each of them with their own identity.
