What happens when we learn how to do something, but don't have the knowledge/wisdom to deal with the implications of our new power? Arguably, every technological innovation in history has been a more-or-less dangerous leap without benefit of foresight. If something is new, by definition it hasn't been thoroughly tested yet. The hazards aren't known. Given the tragedies of the past, it is almost a hopeful sign that the invention of nuclear power has so far only cost humanity three cities worth of lives (counting Chernobyl,etc as the third). Maybe we're getting wiser.
