Save this country

Vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7.

I think I got disillusioned during the Clinton years. He cheated on his wife with an intern. He lied about it to the public and in court. He and Hillary had sleazy financial dealings. His attorney general botched the Waco siege and eighty Branch Davidians died. He fired cruise missiles that missed Osama bin Laden and ended up destroying a factory and killing civilians instead. He started unprovoked military campaigns in Bosnia and Somalia, and got dozens of American troops plus maybe a few thousand locals killed. Bosnia is now somewhat better, Somalia is worse than when we went in.

I didn't know how good we had it. Bush has overwhelmed Clinton's record with corruption, lies, torture, and death. Everything from concealing serial sexual predator Mark Foley to appointing Michael "Heck of a job" Brown as FEMA director, whose incompetence contributed to two thousand deaths and eighty billion dollars lost to Katrina. But that's the small stuff. He lied about nonexistent weapons of mass destruction in order to start a horrifically bloody, ill-planned war in Iraq. He has refused to adapt his strategy, or even to admit mistakes, while thousands of American troops have died. Bush has betrayed the constitution by putting American citizens in jail without charge. He has authorized torture while publically denying it. He has authorized wholesale government spying and surveillance without a warrant.

Bush needs to go. As soon as possible. The best we can do this year is to elect state officials and representatives and senators who will stand up against him, and if possible impeach him.

Vote. To save our freedom, our honor as a nation, and our soldiers' lives.

"The U.S. military announced two more deaths in October, which increased last month's death toll to 105. The first U.S. casualty in November was also announced. The Post cites figures from Iraq's Interior Ministry and says 1,289 Iraqi civilians died as a result of political violence in October, which is an increase of 18 percent from September. The paper is quick to point out that many civilian deaths in Iraq are never reported." -www.slate.com
