Part 1
I try to change the way I am right now
But I can't
The days and weeks and months passed by quickly. Everyone in Super Junior was incredibly busy with schedules, practices, and performances.
And still, Yesung had no clue.
Eventually, Ryeowook’s crush became old news, and other than occasional sympathetic glances at Ryeowook whenever Yesung was being particularly insensitive, things really went back to normal.
And then one day, it happened again. SM decided that Super Junior needed another member, and Kyuhyun was brought home.
And when it was announced that Kyuhyun was the final change, and that Super Junior would no longer be a rotation group, Eeteuk sat down and cried with happiness. A heavy weight that had been resting on everyone’s shoulders, a fear that most wouldn’t voice, was finally gone.
They wouldn’t be separated. They wouldn’t be rotated out.
Super Junior was 13. Now and forever.
It was hard for Kyuhyun at first. The fans weren’t very accepting of him at the beginning, and they weren’t happy with his intruding on the group. A few members of Super Junior resisted as well.
But Kyuhyun’s voice added something to Super Junior’s music. A depth that no one realized they needed until it was there.
Ryeowook knew exactly how Kyuhyun had to be feeling, since he’d gone through the same thing, and he made sure to make Kyuhyun feel safe, welcome, and comfortable, the way Yesung had done for him.
They became instant friends, closer than Ryeowook had ever been able to get to any of the other members, even Yesung. In Kyuhyun, Ryeowook found someone that he could tell all of his deepest, darkest secrets without any fear at all.
One late night, Kyuhyun laid curled up beside Ryeowook in bed. (Kyuhyun didn’t have a bed yet, there wasn’t really space, so he would usually share with Ryeowook or Eeteuk) Eeteuk was in the living room, updating his Cyworld, so Ryeowook and Kyuhyun were alone.
“Kyuhyun, can I tell you something?”
Kyuhyun nodded. “Of course, Hyung.”
“…I haven’t told anyone this, I don’t want anyone to know. Even though I think they do anyway…” Ryeowook sighed, pulling the blanket up, tighter around his shoulders. “…I’m gay. And I’m in love with Yesung.”
Kyuhyun blinked at Ryeowook in surprise. “I didn’t know that.”
Ryeowook nodded a little. “But I don’t know what to do about it… I’m trying to get over him…”
“If he doesn’t know,” Kyuhyun said, “Why don’t you just tell him all of this?”
Ryeowook shook his head, hiding his face in his pillow. “I couldn’t. I can’t.”
“But-”
“He wouldn’t like me like that! And even if he did… if we broke up, what would it do to Super Junior? And… he’s had girlfriends, there’s no way he’s gay,” Ryeowook spoke softly, looking over at Kyuhyun with sad eyes, “I’ve thought about it from every angle, been thinking about it this whole year we’ve been together, and… I just can’t. I can’t.”
“Okay…” Kyuhyun said unsurely, “But I really think it would be better if he knew.”
“If who knew what?” Eeteuk said, walking over and sitting on his bed. “And shouldn’t you two be asleep? We have an early day tommorow.”
“It’s nothing,” Ryeowook said softly, hiding his face under the blanket, not wanting their leader to see his embarrassment.
“You were up too,” Kyuhyun pointed out, “And you work the hardest out of all of us, so you need the most sleep.”
Eeteuk laughed as he turned off the small lamp that the others had left on for him and crawled into his bed. “I don’t need much sleep.”
Sleeping wasn’t easy for the leader of Super Junior. He was the last one asleep, after making sure everyone else was in their bed, and the first awake to wake up everyone else. On top of that, he had so much to worry about, between leading Super Junior, being in charge of twelve rambunctious boys, and the small worry in the back of his head that he never voiced (Kangin).
“Sleep is good fo-” Kyuhyun’s sentence was interrupted by a yawn, “for you, Umma.”
Ryeowook nodded in agreement.
“Okay, okay,” Eeteuk said, “We’ll all go to sleep now.”
And it didn't take long before they did.
