Character Story: Ash Airgetlam
The Deepsong Gauntlet

He ran his free hand across deepsong. Fingertips lightly traceing the scrollwork, weathered gold on silver, remembering with his father handed it to him for the first time. He brushed a bit of dust out of one of the nooks and then flexed his hand, the weight of the metal giving him a sense of focus, .

"Why don't you use a real buckler, instead of that ancient peice of crap gauntlet?" His sparring partner asked him blunting, nor mocking, but neither was it a kind comment, Kyrzenwolders didn't have much time for sentimentality or inefficientcy.

"It's been in my family a long time, no point in changing now" He spat blood from his mouth into the dirt and picked himself back up, brushing himself off. His other hand retrieved the wooden practice sword he had been using. The past hour had been a sound beating for him, but he kept getting back up, a little more tender each time. Head to head combat wasn't his strong suit, but you always had to improve. Be ever vigilant, know your weakness, and try to improve on them. Be ever cautious.

"Whats the story then?" His partner asked as he took a break to get water, then handing it off to him.

He laughed lightly and then flexed his wrist in the gauntlet, listening to the metal slide against itself at the joint. "Well, my father told me that it was part of an ancient statue back in the kingdom we came from. But he was a hell of a story teller, so who knows if its true. He used to say that hundreds of years ago that there was an island with an ancient castle on it. His great great grandfather used to sneak off and explore the ruins whenever he could. One day he claimed to have found an old statue half buried in the rubble. This was the only peice he could get out, the rest was too big for him to drag out as a child. He said that it was part of a thing called deep song, a giant metal statue that seemed to have its own room in the ruins."

His partner shrugged lightly and then chuckled. "Well, its seriously solid. and i guess its easier to carry around than a full sized buckler for when you're out in the woods, but I still think you're a bit insane for trying to use it."

The elf nodded and then moved back to thier practice ring for the next round. "Well, my father said nothing good came of being ordinary. Then again, he also claimed we're the decendants of a white stag made of snow and a wolf that glows in the moonlight, so who the fuck knows."

He took a few practice swings, and then set his stance. "Okay, one more round, and then we go get dinner. I think i've bled enough for one day."
