So yeah.. this week has started "hell week" of finals and papers and all kinds of crazy madness.. Needless to say my sleep schedule is all f***ed up (-_- )zZz Anyways.. took my Classical Japanese final yesterday.. should be ok, I think I did just as well as I did on my midterms. We had five quizzes during this quarter and I got 100% on all of those.. 98% on my first midterm, 93% on my second one, so I don't really see anyways, unless I comepletely failed my final to not receive an "A" so that's all gravy in that department.
Today, however, was the hardest final/test I've ever taken in my entire life. Today was my Fourth-year Japanese final.. this was insanely difficult because in the last 3 weeks we've read two extremely academic/philosophical novels, one of which was written in the Meiji Era (明治時代). Which, if you know anything about Japanese history, was an era where the language was rather different from what you hear in Japanese nowadays, kind of like Ye Ole English versus current English. So, these books were difficult in their own to simply comprehend, and then on our final today, we had to answer 10 questions about each novel, roughly a paragraph for each response.. then an essay comparing the two novels thematically, from different generation standpoints, personal thoughts. etc... So about 20 paragraphs + an essay.. all in TWO FREAKING HOURS!!! It was stressful to say the least.. especially since you can't really study for this test except to just read the books over again and try and make sure you understand everything that was written. It's openbook however, but if you've ever taken an openbook test, you know that they're even harder. I brought my laptop in, typed up my test and saved it on one of my classmates memorystick and turned it in EXACTLY with no time left.. It's a good thing I had a random feeling like I should bring my laptop and type instead of writing it all out, or else I wouldn't have finished since I can type MUCH faster (about 200wpm) than writing (about 75wpm).. we'll see how that goes.. now I just to write my paper and turn it in to sum up my the first quarter of my last year in the Japanese major here at UCI.
Thursday is all about the Chinese final, which I'm probably going to be too tired to even study for.. but it's alright, I am POSITIVE i'm going to get an "A" in that class.. so whatevers..
Later Thursday night I have my Tae Kwon Do test.. which should be fun as always. At my dojang (도장) we have five "progress marker" tests before we test for our actual next degree.. this test is the last marker in the sequence, so next summer sometime, I'm going to be flying out to Korea to test for my 4th degree. Can't wait.
With regards to Winter Break, I'm going to be leaving for New Orleans again this Friday, head out to Georgia to see my family after about five days, stay in Georgia for about four days.. then come home for another five days. Then begins my journey in Shanghai (上海)!! It's going to be so much fun.. like one of my best friends Kevin said I think THAT is going to be my real Chinese final, hahahaha. Anyways.. I suppose that will be all for this post this evening. Everyone take care, and good luck on your finals! Keep you head up! Happy holidays everyone!!! ^______^
