Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni (Beijing Welcomes You)

Last night we watched the four-hour Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, and it was just amazing.  It was huge, spectacular, gorgeous.  Just so complex, ornate, and artistic.  (I am running out of adjectives.)  The performances were awe-inspiring and at the same time slightly frightening just by the sheer man-power (as many as 2008 men at a time with a total of 15,000 performers!!).  The highlights were the huge drum countdown, the world's largest LCD screen made into an arena-sized scroll, the ancient painting dance, the march of all the minority children, the giant moving printing block displays, the armies of dancers, actors, and tai-chi masters, the acrobats "walking" all across the illuminated globe (with Sarah Brightman and Liu Huan singing the 2008 theme song at the top), the mind-blowing fireworks, and the finale, Li Ning being lifted all the way up, "running in the air" around the top of the entire "Bird's Nest," and Lighting the beautiful spiral Flame Cauldron, which had appeared as if by magic.  *_*

Everyone is saying it was the most spectacular opening ceremony in the history of the Olympics, not just for the magnitude but also for the blend of technology and artistry.  Here's a short clip show with the best parts of the night.  And photo galleries of the Pageantry and the Pyrotechnics.  Isn't that awesome?  I definitely felt a surge of pride for our people.  ^_^

Also, Mom's going back to T-ville today.  We've had a great time this past month.  She's cooked so much good food.  XD  I made her an iron-on tee-shirt with the Olympic Mascots.  :D  And she read all the comic books I checked out from the library.  My mom likes reading comics (especially Batman, like me and Maggie ;)!  I have the coolest mom ever!  <3
