So it looks like everyone is spreading out...Winnipeg/Navy/Liverpool...
Val, good luck with the job hunting
Jan, sounds like you're enjoying yourself
Cat, are you coming to TO next week/any weekends to come?
I've basically taken this summer off, not working, doing lots of reading, going out and seeing lots of the city (did you know there is a Chinatown in Mount Pleasant Cemetery?), visited Cayuga a couple times to attend family weddings/functions, having fun...but it's OK, because on Sept. 3 I start what is basically my dream PEY job. I'm joining the
Bridges and Structures Group at LEA Consulting. It's basically an office job where I get to do things like AutoCAD drawings, checking calculatings, detailed designs, and general engineering student type stuff. They've recently had a bunch of project proposals approved so I'm going to be involved in actually making them a reality, working out the kinks, etc. I am pleased, and Prof Gauvreau is awesome for telling me to apply there.
Although, I will be commuting using something other than my feet for the first time in my life. The office is up in Markham, and it takes at least 75 minutes to get up there via TTC/Viva...and I timed that in the middle of the day, not early morning or late afternoon when I would actually be going to/leaving work. But I think it will be worth it because I can read some good books/sleep on the subway. And I won't have to leave my apartment that I love. And not moving for the first summer in 6 years is a relief...
I'm just slightly annoyed at GO Transit because I could save 50 dollars a month by buying a Monthly GO Pass and Viva Transfer Sticker instead of TTC GTA Weekly Passes but the first bus between Union and Unionville doesn't leave early enough for me to get to work on time. At least the GTA Pass may come in handy at other times...
So yes...11 more days of hanging around, fulfilling missions such as buy a new iron to replace the one that mysteriously corroded in the closet, get a phone to replace mine that is starting to fall apart (Rogers has a RAZR for $110?)...then the end of summer and time to dive into the real engineering work I've been wanting to get to...
