a long lost update

so lots has been happening.

•we've been cabining -- first to the yaak lookout tower, then to the little bear cabin, and this weekend to the ibex cabin in the crazies.

--the yaak was amazing ... different ... but very cool. for one thing, it's far away. think corner of montana, idaho and canada. it took 8 hours to get there, and we stayed in the same state! the fire lookout tower we stayed in was 4 stories up with incredible views, and it was mercilessly unsmokey until the last night, and the stars were as big as our fists, for real. going up 4 flights of rickety stairs is not so pretty fun though ... specially when the bathroom (read: outhouse) is at ground level and you are having lots of cocktails. also, packrats are decidedly *not* cute.

--little bear was also fun. oh, right up until the part where it was a blizzard and we decided to go home, and so we loaded up everyone in the car and headed out and i was in my pajamas still and wilson had trouble with the gate so i got out to help her and guess what? the car locked itself. so that would be me (in my pajamas) and wilson on the outside of the car, in a blizzard, and the three dogs (yes, three, there is a new one, selah, see next bullet) and all our stuff (including cell phones) on the inside of the car. what fun! wilson panics with a capital-P, for we are far up way high in the middle of nowhere, and i remain sickeningly calm. it turns out that frida neither has opposable thumbs nor is willing to just step on the automatic door lock button ... so we ended up having to break a window with the maul from the cabin. ***note: if you are going to have to break a window, don't break the teeniest one, cuz it will for sure be the most expensive like $500 to replace.***

•we got another dog. she's a 3-yr-old black lab whose former owner moved to hawaii and couldn't take her because of the quarantine. so, we had them over to see if everyone would get along, and mostly they did, so she's ours now. she's spectacular! her name is selah (SAY-luh), which is hebrew for "pause" or "be still" and she pretty much embodies her name. her former owner was both a yoga master and an old testament scholar ... she is a pretty mellow girl. and she's on a diet ... cuz she's HUGE. oh, and she's not spayed. and she's had one puppy. but we're getting her spayed, cuz we don't need puppies.

•so, life is basically good. here are some pics to prove it:

selah!

i'm not really on fire, don't worry, lights of bozeman, ghosts of wilson
