Despite not having very much timetabled since exams finished a month and a half ago I have managed to completely fail to post anything here in about three weeks. Mostly this is just going to be a photo dump for some of the stuff I've taken over the last couple of months, clicking on the photo should take you through to the relevant picasa album. Starting with:
April
well, ok, the very last weekend in April.
A trip to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh. I took about 200 photos and picked out 30 to upload. In truth, I think these are the photos I am proudest of so far with my DSLR although the photos from the Beltane festival on Calton hill are also rather cool, especially some of the ones with the fire dancers towards the end of the album.
May was mostly exams, so not much photographing then. Exams were written about
here. Results are back, and the one I walked out of knowing I'd failed, I failed. The one I walked out of knowing I'd aced, I'd aced. One I'd walked out of knowing I'd done ok was also most pleasingly high, and one I'd walked out of certain I'd screwed up also came back as not too shabby. I average just over 60% so should be fine for progression to the the integrated MPhys year (in fifth year, year after next).
June
I ended up doing a fair bit. A trip back down to the north west of England to visit family and a meetup of people from the
BadScience forums in Manchester. It was also my first proper wander around Liverpool with my new camera and ended up taking a
fair few shots. I was back in Liverpool two days later again for Africa Oyé, a festival of African music. I discovered that Moorish food is really rather gorgeous thanks to the
Moorish Restaurant who had a tent there.
I also bought a dress, which is nigh on unheard of for me. It also got a wearing today thanks to beautiful sunshine in Edinburgh leading me to feel all summery, and I sat in the sun reading the second Rebus book (seriously, why did I not read these before?! Scary thing is these early Rebus books were originally published before I was born, but the Edinburgh in them isn't entirely unrecognisable).
When I made it back up to Edinburgh a friend was going to be visiting the city, so I offered accommodation and we had a few days where I got to do some touristy stuff I don't often bother to do when it's just me around. Babby moorhens (or are they coots?) and squirrels abounded
In other news, I start a summer placement at Leicester University department in three weeks time. It will be about using digital image processing techniques for studying the aurorae. Beyond that I don't really know what I'll be doing yet, but it was classified as computational/data analysis so hopefully I'll get to do a bit of programming stuff.
And the Oxfam shop I have been volunteering in for the last year made it on to the
BBC news pages today. Terrifyingly I am now trusted to do the end of day cashing up stuff, I'm still not quite adjusting to having a till full of cash in front of me and it being my job to count it all up. Still, if people have £500+ and fancy owning a first edition of a Harry Potter book, go, bid. The auction is open for the next two weeks and you just have to fill in the bid slip next to the till (and then, to like, pay up if you win would be nice :) )
