In Pekara, telling Suz about the conference in Cincinnati (just got back this evening)

"So, yesterday morning I decided to skip out on the morning panels and sit in a coffee shop to get some work done.  But while I was there, there was this couple that had a little boy, and he was just having a fit.  I mean, screaming -- full-on, whole-lung screaming."
"How old was he?"
"Three or four."
"Too young to be in a coffee shop."
"Yeah, and too old to be having that kind of a fit.  But that's not even the worst part.  He finally stopped screaming, but then he kept getting up and bolting for the door.  We were in like an enclosed area attached to the hotel, so he wasn't, like, running out into the street.  But he did this, like, five times."
"Oh, wow."
"And each time his mom was running after him.  It was crazy.  And I was like, I don't want to judge your parenting, lady, but that boy needs to be on a leash.  I mean, first the screaming, then the repeated attempts at escape."
"I know what you mean.  If he were a prisoner, he'd be in solitary confinement by now."
