[Roads crouches down to her level, and starts inspecting Nanoha all over. Not in a perverty way, he's just looking over all her clothes and Raising Heart...okay, it's kind of creepy.]
Well, you've got far more firepower than anything else your size...and it's magical power too, which means that I should be able to incorporate the same technology into the Zweilicht.
Say, can I get a look at Raising Heart sometime? When you're not wearing it, I mean.
[Nanoha keeps an eye on Roads as the inspection begins. Oh, and she's very tempted to take a step back now, but she stifles that reaction somehow. After all, no one here would really do anything bad to her, right?]
The Zweilicht...?
Um, I guess I wouldn't mind you taking a look, if she doesn't mind too, that is.
[It's a good thing for you that Roads is not A CHAR. He stops the inspection for a little bit to meet Nanoha's eyes.]
The Zweilicht's my unit. It's a Mobile Suit modified to have some magical subsystems, but they're pretty lacking right now...so anything I can improve it with would be great.
As for me...My name's Roads, and I'm an engineer here. Anything else you needed to know?
As for the mage thing...No, I don't think I'd count as one yet.
[he's going to stand up and walk around a bit.]
While the Zweilicht is capable of using magical energy...it can't shape any spells. The power involved just sort of spills out in an uncontrolled mess, which happens to hurt whatever I'm fighting.
Our technology is currently much, much less advanced than what the TSAB is throwing around...we're a good hundred or so years of continuous development behind them right now.
[She keeps watching him as he paces about, but that mention of magic again catches her attention for sure.
The headtilt continues while she dismisses her barrier jacket, which disappears in a pink glow, only to be replaced by her ordinary clothes.]
Not...yet?
[Was that even possible? To use magic without being a mage? More importantly, these things are being explained to a nine year old. Not your average nine year old, but a nine year old nonetheless, and one that just got her magic on roughly a year ago...]
Ehe...to be honest, I'm pretty new to magic too, so I'm still clueless when it comes to how these things happen. But you're looking for a way to control your robot's magic, right?
If that's the case, what you need is a good teacher, like Yuuno-kun or maybe Chrono-kun! I don't know if they could teach a robot how to use magic though...
[How to explain interdimensional geopolitics to a nine year old...]
Ah yes, that...Well, Yuuno doesn't really have the authority to hand me that sort of stuff, and Chrono's quite reluctant to do it...How to put it...
...Well, once given, knowledge cannot be taken away. Chrono knows that, and he knows that if I get my hands on the TSAB's tech, then not now...but maybe ten, twenty, even thirty years from now, a situation could come up where suddenly the TSAB finds itself facing an expansionistic empire armed with mecha, magic, and all sorts of other weaponry.
Chrono just doesn't want to be the guy responsible for that.
It's fine if you're not interested, though. Raising Heart and I could always lend you a hand...right?
[She glances down at the spherical red gem for confirmation, and it replies with a short-lived glow.]
No problem.
[And then she looks back at Roads. Talking to him made her realize something: that she didn't want to be responsible for some super empire attacking the TSAB in the future either. She could understand that much.]
I don't know how much help we'd be...but, you have to promise not to give things away to any evil people or anything like that.
Don't worry too much-I'm not gonna be handing this stuff out like candy-but I'm glad to have your help. With it, a whole new realm of possibilities will be opened...
A mission's just ended, and Nanoha was making her way through the hangar when she notices you looking at her strangely.]
Umm...what do you mean by that, mister?
[Yes, this is a bit scary to her too.]

But, who are you?

I see. So you're a robot pilot and an engineer, that's kinda cool.
It's nice to meet you, Mister Roads. You know Raising Heart, but I'm Nanoha - Takamachi Nanoha.

Well, there is something I'd like to know...your robot...uhm, Mobile Suit, can use magic. So does that mean you're a mage too?

W-well, that would be bad, but I'm sure it'll be fine as long as the knowledge doesn't get out...
[Clearly there are a lot of things she still doesn't understand, especially when it comes to Roads. So, obvious follow-up suggestion is obvious.]
If it's that much of a problem, why not join the Bureau instead? No one has to be worried about things that way...

And after my time in the Earth Federation Space Forces, I'm in no hurry to join an army again. Even if it is primarily a peacekeeping force.

But they haven't been doing anything bad, if that's what's bothering you.
