Not at all. Many Mobile Suits can match the speed of a jetplane. In space, they can fly circles around your average ship.

Then there must be something to the Neuroi themselves that makes those machines incapable of destroying them.

They're flying black alien that literally, eat land. It is our job as Strike Witches to destroy them.

But if it's as you say, and mobile suits out perform standard planes, then, there must be something only us Witches can do that makes these mobile suits inefficient.

What manner of defenses do they use?

Mobile Suits weren't designed to fight these 'neuroi' things. They are tools of war, constructed to fight other human beings.

But to answer your question, they consist of heavy armor, reflective shields that can withstand high impact projectiles, and some even have anti-beam coatings or I-Fields to disperse beam weaponry.

I personally prefer high-mobility mobile suits, simple because I make it a point to bring back every mobile suit I pilot in one piece. Very rarely have I even had a scratch on mine.

You understand I'm not fully familiar with all of this. But, I suppose that's to be expected. You've lived in space, haven't you. In those colonies I've heard of.

I've not seen any conventional metals that can withstand an attack from a Neuroi, but our shields can hold their weight against their beams.

Perhaps we have an advantage yet, ohohohoh!

Though I suppose I wouldn't mind trying my hand at fighting a Neuroi. It would be an interesting change of pace from the same old Federation mobile suits or ships.

I'd enjoy that. I've never seen the Strike Witches in actual combat, but I've heard plenty of stories since arriving here.
