You know, this isn't really my area of expertise, so maybe I'm mistaken, but I think it'd be a whole lot simpler to distribute the budget cuts between the two, er, multiverses instead of wasting even more money on these... competitions.

[Competition time!]
Look, I know that, as a group, we might not all always see optic-to-optic, but that doesn't matter right now. If we're going to win this, we need to work together, as a team. We might have our differences, but we're all united by a common goal to protect our homes and the things dear to us. It's not a goal any of us can achieve on our own; just like a machine won't run unless all of its individual parts are in working order, we all have to do our best together to win this.
[And here he starts assigning tasks/roles, each playing to the assigned person's particular strengths, if not necessarily their particular likes.]
