Well, LJ, it's been a while. Mostly because my affections have been directed to Facebook, which is like a full-time job. Especially when managing the Sound & Fury stuff. But I thought it would be nice to update here for a second, for anyone interested, who isn't on FB...
I'm in Scotland, for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, for the second year in a row. Been here a week and a half I think, and it's been pretty swell so far. We had four sell-out nights in a row, and a couple of terrific reviews, and are waiting on two more to break any minute. We're doing "Sherlock Holmes & the Saline Solution" as well as "Testaclese" (as a pass-the-hat indoor 'free-fringe' show), and both are being well-received by the punters.
We're surrounded by our friends from Australia, who have come here to work and play - so it's a bit of weird culture shock I guess hanging out with so many Aussies while in Scotland. But it's great to get to see them twice in a year, instead of just once.
At the same time, we miss being with our Canadian contingent, at the Edmonton Fringe, which just started. But this mother-of-all-fringes here gives us the opportunity to secure more touring and next-steppishness, instead of just the "quick buck" of Edmonton... oh tradeoffs...
The weather is much better than last year - still plenty of rain, but not *pouring* constantly like last year. Nice!
I've spent a bit of time getting to chat with Janeane Garafolo, who is simply DARLING. The kind of person you immediately know you want to have as a close friend. She is disarmingly nice, considerate, and puts on no airs whatsoever. She's supposed to come see our show tonight... fingers crossed.
I've only seen 2 shows, hers, and Bec Hill's "If you can read this, my cape fell off" which is charming. Bec has a sparkle in her eye and a delivery that would make (as they say) her reading the phone book a pleasant diversion. Saw it in Adelaide, and it's more polished now, and just sweet.
I can't imagine doing anything more wonderful than what we're doing these days - making people laugh, meeting interesting folks from around the world, and visiting places I wouldn't otherwise get to see.
More please!
