Six-Word-Summary: "It's a Britney Spears sex riot!!"

Ok, contrary to expectations, how fun was Brittany/Britney??

I really enjoyed it, although that might just be relief that I finally got to watch it after streaming 4OD for FIVE HOURS. Seriously.

Obviously, an episode that focused on dear Brittany (who finally has a surname, yay!!) was never going to be overwhelmed with plot and gritty performances, but it was perfect to showcase the character and Heather Morris' hot as fuck dance moves. Youch.

The idea of using the dental anaesthetic to give the kids Britney hallucinations was a freakin' genius of a plot device. It's Glee-- I'm totally just going with it. I was scared it was just gonna be like The Power of Madonna, one big Mr Schue lesson on empowerment, and I'm glad they went in another direction. And a fittingly ridiculous one at that.

The 'Me Against the Music' rendition had me wanting to create two different AUs: namely, a Glee/Inception crossover verse, and a universe based around the kick-ass New Directions members populating Brittany's hallucinated bar. Did anyone else notice the only kids in there were characters she's made out with? Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough. To be honest, i was distracted by Kurt's outfit, which was AMAZING.

Character-wise, following on from last week everyone still seems to be suffering from their post-summer attitude problems. I mean, the irony of Kurt screaming at Mr Schue to stop being so uptight? Finn snarking back at Rachel ("Just trying to be honest."), Tina's continued goth-sulks ("Don't know him, don't wanna hear about him.")? I really hope there's going to be some explaining and addressing at some point, though I don't expect much. Although this might be the one instance where I can understand Ryan Murphy's logic-- they're teenagers; they have mood-swings.

I'm really getting far too much enjoyment out of Finn and Rachel's dysfunctional relationship. Rachel's "I want to be the only thing that makes you happy..."-- that's covered in warning bells, but it's very in character for Rachel. She is after all, a controllist pretty controlling. Finn worrying about losing his popularity is also good continuation from last season-- normally Finn does my head in, but I like him when he's insecure.
Is that kind of sadistic?
One of my favourite moments was when Quinn started chatting Finn up, suggesting they go out again, and Finn shot her down. I was watching it going: "Oh no, don't do this, it's totally out ofcharacter, argh, Ryan Murphy..." and then he revealed it was Rachel's idea, her little back-to-front insecure way of finding out if her boyfriend really cared about her. I loved that Quinn would do that for her although, yeah, probably still a bit OOC. It's not out of character that Rachel would ask though. She is a fruit-loop.

I'm glad Artie's getting a bit of spotlight. He seemed to be a prop most of last season, and his angst over Tina and his lack of abs is really touching. I also loved that scene where he cheerfully interrupted the fight between Finn, Karofsky and Azimio to apologise about getting Finn kicked off the team. I hope he gets over Tina and starts to feel good about himself again soon though. I miss his ghetto-speak.

'Toxic"? I love that it actually was a sex riot. Clearly episode 2 of any season is always going to involve a wildly inappropriate sexy number. But really-- If Mr Schue wants to avoid a peodophilia charge, he should really avoid taking part in said sexy numbers with his barely legal students. Just saying. He should also avoid letting his personal life and his professional life overlap so dramatically.  Geez man, get over it, she's taken.

Speaking of, I was glad to see Emma again. Her new boyfriend seems a bit of a douche, but y'know, that's dentists for you.

All-in-all, not much plot development, but what character-development there was worked for me. In principle, I dislike Britney Spears intensely, But the musical numbers fitted pretty well and it wasn't too horrific. The whole ep was kooky and mental and fit Brittany's character like a glove. Yay, Brittany :).

Quote of the week: "I hope you'll all appreciate that I want Glee club to remain a place where I, Brittany S. Pierce, can escape the torment that is Britney Spears."

Preparing myself mentally for Grilled Cheesus tonight.... Don't know if I can deal with all the emotion :O. Also, really really hope they do the religion thing well-- and I don't even really know what I mean by that but... well, I guess I'll know it when I see it.
