here Radio show: Tsubasa no to base (翼のto base) Tsubasa’s 30 minute, nationwide radio show Thursdays at midnight on JOQR (part of “Rekomen”) Features guest artists, other Johnny’s, letters, sports and love advice. The name is a play on words. “Tsubasa to base” is radio jargon and “To-ba-se” and “Tsu-ba-sa” sound alike in soft, sibilant Japanese. His radio show website is at:
http://www.joqr.co.jp/reco/tobase.html and you can write to him there at:
Tsubasa@joqr.net Audio clips of his show are posted regularly at the
Takitsuba forum Blood Type: A
Western Zodiac: Libra
Chinese Zodiac: Metal Rooster
Zodiac traits: Witty, neat, meticulous, mischievous, organised, decisive, perfectionist, practical, responsible. Can be critical, abrasive and opinionated. Often seen as the strong, silent type. Quite moody and emotional and can be too outspoken, people often consider them eccentric. Talented and capable, they are devoted to their career and have a reputation for being hard-working and fussy about details. Extraordinarily talented, they have little patience for the slower and less-talented. They can distinguish right from wrong very clearly and always end up going the right way in life.
Favourite foods: Sushi, sea urchin, pasta, なべりょうり (“nabe-ryouri” cooking things in a pot - japanese style). Enjoys specialty and foreign cuisine and enjoys restaurant-hopping.
Interests: Dancing, baseball, travel (has been known to take quick trips to foreign countries to sample dance styles or foreign cuisine), cooking, fashion design, collecting miniature cars, darts, video-games, watching movies, guitar, drums, piano.
Interesting facts:
- Tsubasa’s older sister was a TOKIO fan and she submitted his application to join Johnny’s Jimusho. He and Tackey had their audition on the same day on 23 April 1995. Tackey and Tsubasa were first united in a 3 person unit with another boy, Kawano Naoki as they were immediately cast as the three leads in the drama Kaiki Club Ghost Stories (Oct 1995). They soon became known as “The Kaidan Trio” and appeared together in many magazine shoots between 1995 and 1997. Naoki, a keen drummer, eventually left the Jimusho to pursue a career in a succession of rock bands.
- Tsubasa was also once linked in a unit with Arashi’s Sakurai Sho.
- MILLENIUM SHOCK, the dance musical starring Domotou Koichi and Tsubasa was a revival of the original SHOCK, which starred members of Johnny’s Group “Shounentai”. As Higashiyama Noriyuki (Shonentai) and Akasaka Akira (Hikaru Genji) also appeared in the MILLENIUM SHOCK revival in November 2000, the four leads, Koichi, Tsubasa, Higashiyama and Akasaka came to be known as “Johnny’s Four Dance Kings”.
- Tsubasa is a huge Yokohama Bay Stars (baseball) fan, and big fan of U2 (travelled to Dublin, Ireland in 2007 to see their home town). Will often mention both, at length, on his radio show.
- When describing what sorts of traits he admires in a girl, Tsubasa always mentions “good manners”.
Amusing facts:
- In Chinese, the kanji for Imai Tsubasa is pronounced “chin chin ii”, which in Japanese is slang for “a good penis” This proved a great shock for him on his first overseas tour, when his chinese-speaking fans called out his name.
- Dislikes cats and other small, quick-moving animals.
- Is freakishly neat and enjoys housework.

- Tackey submitted his own application to join Johnny’s Jimusho. He and Tsubasa had their audition on the same day on 23 April 1995. Naoki, a keen drummer, eventually left the Jimusho to pursue a career in a succession of rock bands.
- In an already long and distinguished acting career, Tackey holds the record at many theatres in Japan for being the youngest shachou (lead actor) in a stage show.
- Tackey is part of an unofficial group within Johnny’s Entertainment called "No Border" which bypasses the senpai/kohai relationship. Other members include Atsuhiro Sato (Hikaru Genji), Yoshihiko Inohara (V6), Tomohisa Yamashita (NEWS), Shingo Murakami (Kanjani), Toma Ikuta (Johnny’s Jr.), Koichi Domoto (KinKi Kids), Tatsuya Yamaguchi (TOKIO) and Jun Matsumoto (Arashi).
- In Febuary 2007, 2 days before the start of Tackey & Tsubasa’s national “DAME”’ tour, Tackey fell and broke his nose. He had to perform for several weeks wearing a mask but the show went on regardless.
- Tackey does his songwriting under the moniker “
LaVenDer”.
- When describing what kinds of girls “turn him on” Tackey always mentions “uchimata” (pigeon toes). He says it reflects a woman’s fragility if he sees a girl standing at the traffic lights, doing “uchimata”.
Amusing facts: Tackey laments the fact that he can’t swim and has small nipples! He hates socks and they are the first thing he takes off when he gets home. He likes to sing “Sarai” at Karaoke.
