Seriously. No lie. I had the best day of my entire life on August 22, 2007. Clarkston, MI. In the car from 1am till like 4:45pm. Whoo! We were in 5 states too! Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and finally Michigan. I was awake for 42 hours straight by the end of it. No exaggeration, but it was so worth it. All of the misfortunes were worth it. Projekt Revolution was awesome!
So a couple weeks before the show I wrote on both Taking Back Sunday's and My Chemical Romance's Myspaces, saying that we would be driving over 12 hours to get to the show and that we had presents for them. A couple days ago I got a message from some dude saying that he could help me out. So, I took a chance because I never do and I figured if he's psycho and wants to kidnap me, my sister and Rachel Dean would be right there. The dude said that he would try to get a hold of Adam (Taking Back Sunday's lead singer), and see if he could set something up where we could meet him. I was just supposed to call the dude when I got there and write something out on a piece of paper so Adam would know it was me he was supposed to meet if it worked with his schedule since he had to do interviews because the show was being streamed live on Myspace.
There were many misfortunes for me on the trip. Besides ending up missing 4 college soccer practices, I was like gagging and felt like I was going to throw up when we were near the end of Wisconsin. I had to stop and get Pepto Bismol. I only ended up taking one of them though because I choked on it. I got it into my system though, but felt hearing loss, so didn't take the other. The major misfortune was that I had to pee very badly in busy Chicago traffic. So badly, that I ended up becoming paralyzed by me need to empty my bladder. I ended up dumping the cookies out of a Glad Tupperware container and peeing in it in heavy traffic. I was like screaming/laughing/crying at the same time. Too funny. I could only move to lift up to make sure it wasn't overflowing. When it got to be pretty full, I stopped and decided to wait and hold it and try to make it to a stop where there was a bathroom. There was a McDonalds on the highway, so we stopped and I totally dumped it in the parking lot and threw away the tupperware and then ran in to finish peeing the rest of the many gallons I had to pee. I shouldn't have had that much Amp to drink, but I needed the energy for driving. I apologize right now to anyone who witnessed that.
Close to the end, I hit that point where you're so exhausted that every emotion is extreme. Seriously, I felt like I was either going to burst into tears or laugh over everything. Every sign and car made me laugh so hard I was like crying. Fences were hilarious for some reason. As were semis with smiley faces. Potterville and Climax were just two town names that made me laugh to no end. I seriously felt like I was going to start sobbing while I was laughing though because my emotions were so out of whack from being awake for so long. I was awake the longest because I had had to wake up for soccer two-a-days on Tuesday at 7am.
I get there and call the dude, praying it would work out since I love Adam. He says that Adam will meet us in the VIP area at a set time! We get there and I tell the security people that I'm meeting a band member there. Here's the convo:
Security: Who?
Me: Adam.
Security: Adam who?
Me: Adam Lazzara.
Security: Who's that?
Me: He's in Taking Back Sunday.
Security: What's Taking Back Sunday?
Me: A band playing here.
So, they let us through and we waited. I called the dude and he was like "Adam's scared to go in there because he doesn't want to be mobbed." And then the dude says that Adam's calling him and to hold on. So I wait and then he says that Adam's coming and to keep an eye out for him.
Sure enough, I see Adam coming through the entrance. I was so excited I accidentally gave him THE nod. He just grinned at me and I smiled back and he came over. He was like, "I hear you guys had a long drive." He took pictures with us and talked with us for about 15 minutes and was all stuttery and shy. He was all like, "You guys didn't have to drive this far" and "You guys didn't have to get us presents." He told us to enjoy our day and to rest and told us to be safe. He thanked us for the presents and said that he'd give My Chem their presents since they were at catering at the time. He also said, "That purse is so rad," about my crayon purse. He was examining it closely and stuff. He was just the sweetest guy I've ever met. I mean, he didn't have to come meet us, especially since he was so scared that he'd be mobbed by fans in the process. I hope that Matt (the bassist) and Adam are enjoying their lightsabers right now. They so would. I can just picture them play fighting each other. Especially since Matt's hero is Han Solo. No joke.
The show was amazing. I swear that me and the guy a couple seats away from me were the only ones who knew all of the words to all of Taking Back Sunday's songs. I recorded their entire set and will watch it later. Highlight was when Adam was talking about how he was glad that no one had said any inappropriate words since it was being streamed on Myspace, and then he started swearing. I swear that that microphone swinging is a serious skill. He was tossing it in the air and swinging it. It was intense. I was sad that Mark (drummer) was not back yet (oh well, he needs to rest that back and heal up). My Chem was incredible. I was sad though that Mikey (bassist, and my fave member) wasn't back. Frankie (guitarist)'s guitar skills kick ass! Gerard's voice is even more amazing live. I love how he told all the dudes to take off their shirts and that they were all sexy pieces of man meat or something like that. I laughed. Cancer was amazing.
Afterwards we got merch and decided to go see if we could meet My Chem. We spotted their bus and waited in the designated fan area for them to come out. Anyways, we spotted Frankie walking to the bus with Jamia (the woman he's engaged to) and his cute over weight dog. I love how every hard core Frank fan was all like, "Frank's dog... Oh my god! FRANK!!!" He went inside and came back out a while later and spent time signing things and talking to literally every fan that was waiting there for a short period of time. He got to us and I asked if he'd had a chance to open his gift. He was like, "That was you?" I nodded and he was like, "I loved it, thank you so much. You didn't have to give us anything." He was amazed that we'd gone that far to be there. How could we not? My Chem and TBS are my favorite bands). He asked "What's this about?" as he touched my purse and I told him about it. He looked like he loved it. I got a Frankie hug. He told us he doesn't do pictures though because they're just pictures, it's the memories and moments that count. Toro (other guitarist) came out and signed. But no pictures or hugs from him because he was sick. He's amazing for coming out even though he was exhausted and sick!
We got back to St. Kate's after 6pm on Thursday because we stopped and accidentally slept for 6+ hours, instead of the 1 hour that we set our alarms for. Whoops! Oh well, it was the best day EVER!
