wimpy sherring tosspot

Jonathan Coe is BRILLIANT.

He's a British writer, who writes about boys very insightfully. It's a wonderful blend of comic and realistic drama all mixed together. Am reading The Rotter's Club and am blown away by the writing. It takes place in Birmingham, England, circa 1973:
Benjamin went up to his brother's bedroom, intending to lay down some early ground rules about how their evening together should develop, and found Paul sitting by the window, overlooking their scrappy front gardenand the street beyond. From this vantage point, they could see Malcolm and Lois waiting at the bus stop, she clinging to the lapels of his greatcoat, her face tilted towards him, the two of them wrapped in a haze of intimacy, haloed by the amber streetlamps. The two brothers watched this scene with equal concentration: Benjamin, perhaps, because it crystallized some ideal of romantic fulfilment for which he, too, was beginning to yearn; Paul, for more prosaic reasons.

plus, the best stream of cursing that I've seen in fiction:
"You arsehole, Bent," Culpepper hissed, as they changed back into their uniforms. "You fucking useles pathetic little arsehole weakling tosser. You let us all down. Every one of us. We could have won if it wasn't for you. You wimpy sherring tosspot arsehole."

(I do realize that this doesn't seem as strong a stream of invective to my American english ears as it probably does to you British english speakers. ?)

GOF screencaps--> WAH, they do show Voldemort for a split second, but Lavaface!Sirius is so so so dissapointing. NOT how I pictured Floo communication at all, more of a live cool (greenish) face in flames. :/
